this also happened to me and this is what i did:
open regedit.exe
go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger
and you can delete the entire MSNMessenger registry or just the PerPassportSettings one.
also at least for me this only seems to be a temporary fix cuz when i close and reopen WLM 2009 i have to delete the registry thing again.
